The factory and this cooperative were created in 2018. It is located in Nepal, in the Ilam region, near the village of Jasbire. The place, named Malaate, sits at an altitude of 1,770 metres. This factory is part of a cooperative comprising 53 farmers, all certified in organic farming. The gardens the tea leaves come from extend up to 2,000 metres of altitude, ensuring exceptional quality thanks to the region’s unique climatic and geographical conditions.
The factory is run by Dil Kumar, who has over ten years of experience in the tea industry. His expertise and leadership have helped structure and optimise the factory’s operations to produce a high-quality tea. Alongside him, Deuman Gurung, the tea maker, plays a crucial role. Before joining Malaate, Deuman Gurung gained valuable experience working at the Jasbire factory alongside Sharad Subba. His knowledge of tea-making techniques and his artisanal know-how contribute greatly to the reputation of the Malaate factory.
Their commitment to organic practices and their respect for the environment reflect the cooperative’s values and ensure the longevity and sustainability of tea production in this mountainous region of Nepal.
