A new selection of organic teas!
We are very happy to announce that nunshen is now organic-certified.
We have been working for over a year on the conversion of our teas. A large part of our range will now be available as organic. The first teas to enter our organic range are our emblematic 88 Nile Valley but also the 110 – Touareg, 92 – Jardin de Jaipur, 68 – Genmaicha, 50 – Bancha Hojicha, 33 – Douceur des Îles, 13 – Raspoutine, 149 – Pomaika’i, 74 – Fleurs d’Asie, the rooibos 124 – Peach Rooibos, 116 – Vanille Rooibos, 117 – Capetown, and 03 – La Verveine
Other references, such as an organic matcha, are coming soon.
However, we do not wish to turn nunshen into an exclusively organic brand. We want to be able to continue to showcase producers who, very often, for lack of means, do not have organic certification even though they carry out clean cultivation. We source the majority of our single-origin teas directly. Our tea expert regularly visits the tea gardens and maintains privileged relationships with the producers. Thanks to this approach, she selects suppliers with responsible cultivation methods, respectful of nature and people.
In parallel, we have set up an aid plan to support some of our partners towards organic certification. We began this approach with the farmer in Nepal with whom we have been working for several years. From the small village of Jasbire, Purna obtained the organic label a few weeks ago via a body recognised by ECOCERT. We are delighted to soon be able to offer these teas as organic, such as the black tea 182 – Jasbire Awakening, the white tea 215 – Jasbire and then the black tea 181 – Sundara Gira.
But what exactly is organic?
According to the Agence Bio (the French agency for the development and promotion of organic farming, created in 2001), organic farming “was born of a multitude of initiatives by agronomists, doctors, farmers and consumers who, in the 1920s, generated new currents of thought based on ethical and ecological principles, and initiated an alternative mode of agricultural production.”
In 1985, an agricultural orientation law officially recognised a form of agriculture using no chemical products or synthetic pesticides, named “organic farming”. The AB logo was created. Organic farming is today governed by European regulations, and has been since 1991 (Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91).
The main objectives of organic farming are the non-use of synthetic chemical products and the non-use of GMOs. Its aim is the protection of the environment and the climate, the conservation of soil fertility and the maintenance of biodiversity.
What does it mean to have certification?
To be organic-certified means, through a strict set of specifications, committing to select, process and market products from organic farming.
Our certifying body, ECOCERT, validates each new reference at nunshen. The tea and the other ingredients (if the tea is flavoured) must meet the conditions required by ECOCERT.
Like all our teas, the organic teas enter our quality-control process, thus allowing perfect traceability.
We are proud to be able to offer you today a new guarantee of quality!
