A meeting place for professionals, enthusiasts, the curious and experts, the nunshen Atelier is a space entirely devoted to the world of tea. It is located in the heart of Paris, at the far end of a small cobbled courtyard, in a calm and inspiring green setting.
The Atelier is a pared-back, timeless space, in the image of Maison nunshen’s elegance.
Here you find the very essence of the Fine Tea Manufacture. It is here that Carine Baudry, Sourcing and Creation Director, creates, innovates, thinks, imagines and shapes the nunshen teas. It is also here that she shares the Maison’s know-how through training sessions and tastings open to partner establishments as well as to the curious and passionate, eager to enjoy a unique sensory experience.
The Atelier is above all a place of creation. A calm and confidential place, conducive to concentration and inspiration. It is here that Carine Baudry, the Maison’s Sourcing and Creation Director, shapes the nunshen tea range.
It is at the Atelier that you find all the raw materials and the tea samples sourced during travels all over the world. These samples are carefully tested and tasted so as to offer only the finest teas, from the accessible tea to the greatest cru, meeting the brand’s ethics and standards.
When Maison nunshen wishes to develop creations, it is here that all the blends come to life. Imagined during Carine Baudry’s travels, the creations then come to life at the Atelier.
As a Fine Tea Manufacture, nunshen crafts unique tasting rituals to elevate each creation. The Maison’s ambition is to make every tea drinker aware of the history, traditions, rituals and ingredients of each tea, which are the very essence of the creations.
Tea tasting calls upon our senses and our emotions. This is why nunshen uses a sensitive, emotional approach to share its collection.
The Maison’s tea expert thus brings each ingredient into harmony to craft the most beautiful creations.
Beyond being a great place of creation, the Atelier is also a place of encounters. While chefs and sommeliers are mainly trained in their own establishments, the Atelier can be the setting for the first encounter. An encounter that, as well as being human, proves sensory. It is at this moment that each visitor truly discovers nunshen.
When nunshen’s tea expert, Carine Baudry, meets our partner establishments, it is a unique moment devoted to discovering the essence of the brand.
The Atelier is without doubt an exceptional place to carry out a few first tea tastings. The presence of the entire range, as well as the right equipment, makes it possible to offer bespoke service and tasting rituals. This is sometimes impossible in fine-food shops or in certain hotels that have not yet opened their doors, for example.
The Atelier is also an inspiring place to learn how to talk about Maison nunshen’s teas, how to present and/or display them in a retail space.
Well aware that the Atelier is a unique and inspiring place, more and more gastronomy professionals come here to soak up and familiarise themselves with the world of nunshen.
Maison nunshen’s wish is above all to pass on its passion for the world of tea. Whether for simple tea drinkers or for enthusiasts wishing to perfect their knowledge, nunshen makes all its expertise available to all who wish for it.
Discovering tea, its history, its riches and its virtues in a different way — that is what the nunshen Atelier offers, through sensory tastings and a subtle approach to flavours and aromas.
Carine Baudry, Sourcing and Creation Director, orchestrates every training session, sharing her know-how and expertise with passion.
The training sessions held at the atelier primarily concern the Maison’s clients. Chefs, sommeliers, front-of-house teams and tea resellers are supported so as to offer a bespoke selection in their establishment.
The Maison is also keen to train its sales teams, so that they can advise their customers in the best possible way.
During each session, a sensory approach is favoured in order to offer a bespoke selection of teas.
The nunshen Atelier is located in the heart of Paris, at once close to and far from the bustle of the capital. To visit the Atelier is to discover, with delight, a green haven in a small cobbled Parisian courtyard. A unique and confidential place that invites you to travel and to discover.
At the Atelier, you let yourself be carried away by light tones and wood, soft and neutral materials, and divine scents. A true little cocoon that lets each visitor soak up the world of nunshen.
The interplay of soft, neutral materials, wood and light tones, combined with the pleasant aromas of tea, gives each visitor a little cocoon that allows a lovely immersion in the world of nunshen.
La QuintEssence is an accredited training centre specialising in tea and its tasting. Founded by Carine Baudry in 2016, La QuintEssence aims to support enthusiasts and professionals in the knowledge of tea and sensory expertise. The training sessions offered take place at the nunshen Atelier.
La QuintEssence’s teaching is based on the importance of the five senses in understanding tea. It accompanies its teaching with the “La QuintEssence du thé” kit. This tool was designed to make learning about tasting easier. It helps you grasp the essentials of the world of tea, the mechanisms of tasting and the sensory vocabulary.
La QuintEssence also offers workshops for enthusiasts wishing to discover the world of tea, as well as more advanced training sessions involving, depending on the theme, experts in their field.
La QuintEssence thus aims to offer support for anyone with a project around tea.
Within the nunshen Atelier, you meet professionals for exceptional collaborations. How do you guide these clients and what do they expect from the Atelier when they call on you?
Indeed, nunshen collaborates with great gastronomy chefs, mixologists and sommeliers whose mission is to offer product tastings and unique experiences. It is a true piece of work done hand in hand, to understand the expectations, the sensibility, the personality hiding behind this client. It is also a sensory and emotional journey — sharing a chef’s cuisine, then being able to decode it in order to co-create the perfect signature tea, or to develop food-and-tea pairings that will reveal all the originality and personality of the chef or the establishment.
How would you describe tea to a newcomer or to someone who had never drunk tea?
I would tell them that tea is of incredible richness, with multiple palettes of flavours coming from one and the same tree whose leaves are harvested, a reflection of a terroir. I would also want to share the history of tea, that of a drink that brings people together in a ceremony, through the ritual of its preparation. And I would add that nunshen has everything to pass on this knowledge, offering a complete moment from discovery to tasting, by way of sharing, ceremony and preparation. Tea tasting is a suspended moment, thanks to this drink that offers sharing, generosity and hospitality.
nunshen’s primary ambition is to turn every tea enthusiast into a connoisseur: at what point does an enthusiast become a connoisseur?
It is the discovery of all the terroirs through tasting and the pleasure of awakening the senses. The enthusiast will tend to enjoy flavoured teas, while the connoisseur will then choose single-origin teas and will be more sensitive to the quality of the product and its provenance. But the pleasure of tea is already part of the knowledge.
